Early Life

Sandeep Lamichhane was born on August 2, 2000, in the Syangja district of Nepal, in Aruchaur Talpokhari. Chander Narayan Lamichhane, his father, works for Indian Railways. His mother, Kopila Devi, is a housewife. Mohan Lamichhane is his brother and Indu Lamichhane is sister.

Sandeep spent his childhood in India and attended school there until the fourth grade. Later, he joined Nepal’s Chitwan Cricket Academy, where he was chosen by former national team skipper Raju Khadka, who groomed him. Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar are two of his idols.

Cricket Career

Sandeep Lamichhane is a Nepalese right-arm leg spin bowler who was one of the first 11 players to play in Nepal’s first ODI international cricket match. He captained Nepal’s national team and has also played for Twenty20 franchises in several leagues, including the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL), and the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is also Nepal’s all-time leading wicket-taker in ODIs and T20Is.

Controversy

On September 6, a 17-year-old girl accuses the then-captain of the Nepal national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, of raping her. The Kathmandu police receive an arrest warrant against him two days after the formal complaint.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) suspends Lamichhane from the team on the same day. The next day, Lamichhane announces that he is leaving his CPL team and will be returning home soon.

Lamichhane is remanded in custody for seven days on October 10 to allow the police to continue their investigation. Two days later, the court extends the remand by another five days. On October 19, the order is extended for another four days. On October 23, the remand is extended for another two days.

Later, the government attorney’s office files a lawsuit against Sandeep Lamichhane, seeking a prison sentence of 10 to 12 years.

The court decided to keep Lamichhane in custody until the case against him was resolved. The former captain of Nepal’s national cricket team is accused of raping a minor.
